Every year the
sea between Finland and Sweden, which is called the Bay of Bothnia, freezes
over for several months. There are about 60 Finnish ports in this ice zone, and
during the winter about a third are kept open by the ice-breakers. These are
the strongest ships in the world, three times heavier and three times more
powerful than any other ship of the same size. They can slice though one-meter
thick ice without any effort. The Arctic icebreaker Sampo is a majestic vessel.
For 30 years the Sampo was used to clear a path for smaller ships carrying
goods to the port of Kemi, at the tip of the Bay of Bothnia. Now this fine old
ship is retired and taken on a new, lighter role, carrying passengers on one of
the most unusual cruises in the world.From mid-December to April thousands of
tourists get on the Sampo at Kemi for an unforgettable day trip through the
frozen sea. The night before, they stay at Kemi Snow Castle Hotel beside the
harbor. This hotel is built out of sculpted snow and ice, complete with towers,
dining room and even a wedding hall, which is very popular. Guests sleep
comfortably in several layers of sleeping bags on blocks of ice in the little
white bedrooms. As summer approaches, the hotel melts away and is rebuilt later
in the year. The style of the facility, including the theme, shape, size and decorations,
changes annually. Most tourists board the Sampo from the quay⃰ at Kemi, but
there is another way to access the ship. Dressed in the thickest possible
snowsuit, boots, gloves and hard helmet, the bravest of them can travel for ten
kilometers across the frozen bay by skidoo. After a brief lesson on how to
control this ‘motorbike on skis’, people find riding across the ice at high
speed breathtakingly exciting. There is a stop for a cup of coffee and a
sandwich at a farm on one of the small wooded islands before the ride continues
and the Sampo appears in the mist.

Im Ausland kann man nicht nur viele Erfahrungen sammeln und fremde Kulturen kennen lernen, sondern auch ein Praktikum für die Schule machen.
Wo man das Praktikum macht, hängt von den eigenen Interessen und Begabungen ab. So kann man bei einer Computerfirma, einem Radiosender oder in einem Hotel arbeiten. Manche können aber kein Praktikum machen. Der Grund: Sie verdienen dabei zu wenig Geld, um davon zu leben. Wer trotzdem eine Zeit im Ausland leben möchte, kann sich dort auch einen Ferienjob suchen. Meist gibt es eine große Auswahl an Jobs – ob als Helfer auf einem Bauernhof, als Betreuer auf Ferienfreizeiten oder als Wanderführer in einem Nationalpark. Praktika und Jobs im Ausland

Ob man viel Geld verdient, ist völlig unterschiedlich. Es hängt von deinen Erfahrungen, dem Arbeitsort und dem Arbeitgeber ab. Auf Bauernhöfen und in Hotels bekommst du zum Teil mehr als 1.000 Euro pro Monat. In den meisten Firmen erhält man ein Taschengeld. Naturschutzvereine erwarten aber oft, dass du kostenlos arbeitest, da sie selbst wenig Geld zur Verfügung haben.
Die meisten Arbeitgeber freuen sich, wenn du mehrere Wochen oder auch ein paar Monate bleiben kannst. Es dauert meist ein bis zwei Wochen, bis du dich in der Firma, dem Hotel oder dem Bauernhof auskennst. Nachdem du eingearbeitet bist, bist du eine größere Hilfe. Wenn du eine Zeit im Ausland leben möchtest, spare vorher schon genug Geld für die Reise, die Unterkunft und das Essen. In vielen Ländern reicht es, wenn du Englisch sprichst. Wenn du aber mit vielen einheimischen Kunden und Kollegen arbeitest, ist es wichtig, dass du auch die Landessprache sprichst. Dann verfasst du am besten auch die Bewerbung in der jeweiligen Sprache. Um deine Sprachkenntnisse zu verbessern, besuche einen Sprachkurs vor dem Job oder Praktikumsaufenthalt.

This story is about one water polo player Max Roger. He was born in Scotland in 2004. Also he was an owner of young IT company. He is married with his classmate Sarah, but they live separately because of Sarah's job and study. Max isn’t good at computer science, but he is a good manager. His hobby is psychology and also he is a motivator on YouTube. In last he wanted to become successful and rich. When Max was a teenager, he was found of one youth culture called Mods. Freitag der Dreizehnte bringt Unglück, das glauben viele Menschen. Woher kommt die Furcht vor diesem Tag? Dass Freitag der Dreizehnte so einen schlechten Ruf hat, ist unter anderem auf den christlichen Glauben zurückzuführen. Beim Abendmahl, das Jesus Christus mit seinen Jüngern eingenommen hatte, waren dreizehn Personen anwesend. Der 13. Gast war Judas Ischariot, der Jesus später an die Römer verriet und somit Schuld an seinem Tod hat. Freitags sind in der christlichen Tradition viele schreckliche Dinge geschehen. So sollen Adam und Eva an einem Freitag von der verbotenen Frucht (dem Apfel) gekostet haben, worauf sie Gott aus dem Paradies vertrieb. An einem Freitag soll Jesus Christus von den Römern gekreuzigt worden sein. Aber auch die Geschichte ist schuld an dem schlechten Ruf dieses Tages. Am Freitag dem 13. Oktober 1307 ließ der damalige König von Frankreich Philipp IV. die so genannten Tempelritter in ganz Europa verhaften und später umbringen. Tempelritter waren ein sehr wohlhabender christlicher Orden, dessen Angehörige gleichzeitig Mönche und kämpfende Ritter waren. Außer der Verhaftung der Templer, die schon 700 Jahre zurückliegt, sind an einem Freitag dem Dreizehnten bisher aber auch nicht mehr schlechte Dinge geschehen, als an jedem anderen Tag. Wenn einem an diesem Tag jedoch wirklich mal ein Missgeschick passiert, so neigen die Menschen dazu, es auf dieses spezielle Datum zu schieben. Der Glaube daran, dass an Freitagen schlechte Dinge geschehen, und der Gedanke, dass die Zahl 13 Unglück bringt, verbanden sich also im traditionellen Denken der Menschen zu der Legende des Unglückstages. Der Umstand, dass die Menschen schlechten Ereignissen an diesem Tag besonders viel Aufmerksamkeit schenken, verstärkt schließlich noch den Mythos vom Freitag dem Dreizehnten. Der Aberglaube, dass die Zahl 13 Unglück bringt, ist auch in der Praxis weit verbreitet. Manche Hotels verzichten auf die Zimmernummer 13, bei einigen gibt es kein 13. Stockwerk. In etwa 40 Prozent der Wolkenkratzer in den USA fehlt auch der 13. Stock. Auch bei Schiffen fehlt manchmal das 13. Deck. Einige Fluglinien besitzen keine 13. Reihe in ihren Flugzeugen. Die Startnummer 13 wurde in der Regel auch bei der Formel 1 nicht vergeben. In einigen ICE-Zügen der ersten Generation gibt es keinen Wagen 13. Die Auswertung von Unfalldaten hat gezeigt, dass sich an einem Freitag, dem 13. nicht mehr Verkehrsunfälle mit schwerem Sachschaden ereignen als an anderen Tagen. Und auch nicht überall auf der Welt ist der Freitag, der 13., ein Unglücksdatum. Auch die Kombination Freitag und 13 gibt es in anderen Ländern nicht. In Spanien, Griechenland und Lateinamerika (außer Brasilien) sind Dienstage, die auf den 13. fallen, gefürchtet. Die Zahl 13 war im Römischen Reich und im alten China sogar heilig. Und die Italiener ängstigen sich vor Freitag, dem 17.

My New School Is Fantastic
Rita Nelson is
fourteen, and she has changed her school because her parents moved to another
town this summer.
“Let me tell you
about my new school. I’m having a great time. All pupils are very friendly, but
it’s very different from my old school. I can tell you! First of all school
starts at 8.00 here, a whole, hour before it did in that school. This morning I
forgot about it and got to school ten minutes late, so the teacher put a note
into my record-book. I was really angry!
There are a lot
of other differences in this school, of course. We have seven lessons almost
here every day. What else? The school day is different, too. In my former
school we finished school at 3.00, and then most pupils went home. Here we
finish lessons at 3.30, and then most pupils go to sports practice. Well, they
love sports here. I joined gymnastics and football clubs here. A lot of girls play
football in this school. I had my first practice yesterday, and I feel tired
today.
Another
important thing here is learning to do practical things. Their metal and wood
shops are like small factories, and we are taught to drive as well. It’s
fantastic. I had my first lesson in a driving tractor yesterday.”
